Ultra Energy completes 28th annual 2024 Livestrong Challenge

Round Rock, October 2024 - Mark McCray reporting

07 November 2024

Ultra Energy's cycling team, sponsored by the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) committee, recently completed the 28th Annual 2024 Livestrong Challenge held in Austin, Texas.

The team collectively raised $5,266 in charitable donations, exceeding its $5000 goal. Ultra Energy earned VIP status and was among the top ten teams in event fundraising.

Charitable contributions raised benefit the Livestrong® Foundation with its mission of funding community partners who impact cancer survivors’ everyday problems and help survivors focus on healing, peace of mind, and their futures.

Our team members are employees, friends and alumni and both US and UK locations:

  • Ania Morales-Guzman, 20-mile rider
  • Bob Beran (retired), 20-mile rider
  • Cesar Castillo, 20-mile rider
  • Dakota Leonforte, 5k runner
  • Ian Legg, 100-mile rider
  • Jedadiah Jamerson, 100-mile rider
  • Marina (Patrick’s fiancé), 20-mile rider
  • Mark McCray, 45-mile rider
  • Marsha Snapka (alum), 45-mile rider
  • Michael Larkin (5k runner)
  • Ognjen Starovic, 100-mile rider
  • Patrick Calvin, 45-mile rider
  • Rick Andersen, 45-mile rider
  • Steve Elliott (retired)
  • Taylor Campbell, 100-mile rider

Ogi, Ian, Jed, and Taylor completed the Century (100-mile) road course from Austin, TX to the Texas Hill Country and back. Taylor Campbell and Ian Legg set a blazing pace (19.1 MPH) and rotated in and out of the lead of the entire field of riders for the first 50 miles.

Mark’s chain broke about two miles into the race, but he was rescued by the support and gear (SAG) crew. Fortunately, SAG has a spare master link and got Mark back under way in no time to complete the 45-mile road course. Rick stayed behind with Mark for support, then the two pedaled like crazy to catch up with Marsha and the other 45-milers setting a 15.8 MPH average overall.

Ania, Bob and Cesar completed the 20-mile route. Patrick got injured before the ride so Marina, his fiancé, who has been training with the team took Patrick’s spot and completed the 20-miler with the team.

Michael Larkin and Dakota Leonforte took part in the 5k run/walk along Cesar Chavez street downtown that was part of the same charity event.

The team had a safe event, and all enjoyed the beautiful day and camaraderie and satisfaction of supporting our community and giving back.
