RTDs and thermocouples

Measurement and control products that are safe, reliable, effective and sustainable

Resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) are sensors that measure temperature by correlating the resistance of the RTD element with temperature. Thermocouples consist of two dissimilar metals joined at one end. Cooling or heating the junction of the two metals produces a voltage that correlates to temperature. Most thermocouple alloys are commonly available as wire.

RTDs

101, 102, 103 – General Purpose RTD

Designed for a wide range of applications where a simple mounting scheme is required.

  • Model 101 is a straight sheath temperature sensor
  • Model 102 is a copper tip sensitive temperature sensor
  • Model 103 is a reduced tip/fast response temperature sensor

 

101, 103 General Purpose Thermocouple
  • Model 101 is a straight sheath temperature sensor - refer to model 201 if welded fitting is required and the 300 Series if spring loading is required
  • Model 103 is a reduced tip/fast response temperature sensor - refer to Model 203 if welded fitting is required
201 – Welded Fitting TC

Designed for direct immersion applications where a male fitting is
required for mounting. Model 201 is a straight sheath direct immersion temperature sensor.

201, 203 – Welded Fitting RTD

Designed for direct immersion applications where a male fitting is
required for mounting.

  • Model 201 is a straight sheath temperature sensor
  • Model 203 is a reduced tip/fast response temperature sensor
301, 304 Spring Loaded RTD

Designed for applications where a cast iron explosion-proof connection head and a thermowell are required. The spring-loaded action of this RTD ensures proper contact with the tip of the thermowell for maximum heat transfer.

  • Model 301: Refer to Model 302 for general purpose connection head applications. Refer to Model 305 if spring-loaded hex fitting is needed.
  • Model 304: Tip Sensitive temperature sensor. The tip sensitive design is ideal for bearing temperature applications. Refer to Model 303 for general purpose connection head applications.
302, 303 Spring Loaded RTD

Designed for applications where a general purpose head and a thermowell are required. The spring loaded action of this RTD ensures
proper contact with the tip of the thermowell for maximum heat transfer.

  • Model 302 is a spring loaded temperature sensor intended to be used in a thermowell. Refer to Model 301 for explosion proof connection head applications. Refer to Model 305 if spring loaded hex fitting is required.
  • Model 303 is a spring loaded, tip sensitive temperature sensor. The tip sensitive design is ideal for bearing temperature applications. Refer to Model 304 for cast iron explosion-proof connection head applications. Refer to Model 102 if spring-loading is not required.
305 – Spring Loaded RTD

Designed for applications where a spring-loaded threaded male fitting is required for mounting. It is intended to be used with a thermowell and to be compatible with any head that will accept a 1/2” NPT instrument thread. The spring-loading action of this RTD ensures proper contact with the tip of the thermowell for maximum heat transfer. Refer to Model 301, 302, 303, & 304 if threaded fitting is not required. Refer to Model 201 if welded fitting is required.

312 – Spring Loaded RTD

Model 312 is a spring loaded temperature sensor intended to be used in a thermowell. Designed for applications where a general purpose Head and a thermowell are required. The spring loaded action of this RTD ensures proper contact with the tip of the thermowell for maximum heat transfer. Refer to model 301 for cast iron explosion-proof connection head applications. Refer to Model 305 if spring-loaded hex fitting is required.

611 – Direct Immersion RTD Assembly

The model 611 series RTD is designed for a wide range of direct immersion nuclear applications requiring a threaded connection for mounting. This sensor is supplied with a threaded hex fitting which is welded to the sensor sheath to provide physical mounting and a pressure tight joint to the process application. This RTD electrical interface can be configured for use with a connection head and terminal block or Quick Disconnect Electrical Connector (QDC). Typical applications include duct mounting, tank, pool or vessel mounting. The RTD is qualified per IEEE 323-1974/1983 and IEEE 344-1975/1987 for use in Class 1E harsh environments, but can also be used for non-safety applications.

612 – General Purpose Spring-Loaded RTD Assembly

The model 612 spring-loaded RTD is designed for a wide range of nuclear applications. The sensor is intended to be installed in a thermowell or protection tube. The spring-loading action ensures proper contact with the tip of the thermowell or protection tube for optimal heat transfer. This sensor model is optimally configured for use with a terminal block and terminal block connection head. The RTD is qualified per IEEE 323-1974/1983 and IEEE 344-1975/1987 for use in Class 1E harsh environments.

615 – General Purpose Spring-Loaded RTD Assembly

The model 615 spring-loaded RTD is designed for a wide range of nuclear applications. The sensor is intended to be installed in a thermowell or protection tube. The spring-loading action ensures proper contact with the tip of the thermowell or protection tube for optimal heat transfer. This sensor model is optimally configured for use with a quick disconnect electrical connector (QDC), but can also be supplied with a terminal block connection. The RTD is qualified per IEEE 323-1974/1983 and IEEE 344-1975/1987 for use in Class 1E harsh environments.

713 – Bendable Area-Averaging Sensor

Installed in air ducts, cooling towers, air-handling systems and other applications where measuring the average temperature in a large area is necessary. Available with a choice of housings to suit application requirements. Ideal for remote sensing when used in conjunction with a temperature transmitter.

723 – Fluid Immersion

Accurately senses temperature of heated / chilled water and other heat exchange fluids. Easily installs in pipes or tanks. Removable sensor. Available with optional housings to meet specific application requirements. Ideal for remote sensing when used in conjunction with optional temperature transmitter.

733 – Duct Sensor

Accurately senses temperature at a point inside a duct or plenum. Low cost rugged design. High quality sensor constructed of 316 stainless steel. For ease of installation, unit mounts with only two screws, and is supplied with a gasket to prevent air leakage from duct. Sensor is easily removable without dismounting the unit. Ideal for remote sensing when used in conjunction with optional temperature transmitter.

743 – Outside Air Sensor

Unique design to provide accurate temperature indication of outside air. The shield’s two slots allow efficient air flow across the temperature sensor. The integrated sun shield is designed to prevent ice buildup and eliminate incorrect readings caused by exposure to direct sunlight. PVC weather resistant housing and sun shield provide excellent UV aging and corrosion resistance and are U/L listed. This model is available with water resistant housing and the sensor is easily removed for maintenance. Ideal for remote sensing when used in conjunction with optional temperature transmitter.

753 – Room Air Sensor

Attractively styled wall mounted housing designed for even air flow around the sensor for optimal time response. Unique housing design reduces the effects of self-heating created by the transmitter circuitry. Ideal for remote sensing when used in conjunction with optional temperature transmitter.

763 – Pipe-Clamp Sensor

Designed to measure the temperature of fluids in pipes or tanks. Ideal for applications where invasive sensor installation is impractical or prohibitive in cost. Unique tip design provides fast response time and excellent accuracy. Ideal for remote sensing when used in conjunction with optional temperature transmitter

110 - Field Cuttable RTD

Designed for applications where a threaded male fitting is required for mounting in tanks, stacks and pressure vessels. Stocking ‘cuttables’ can reduce inventory. Less downtime, as the 110 can be easily cut to the required length in the field and the fitting installed in a matter of minutes.
Model 110 is designed to be used with optional connector or spring-loaded fitting.

120 - Hand-Breakable RTD HVAC Temperature Measurement

Stocking our patented ‘breakable’ RTDs can reduce your inventory and down time. No tools are required to break the sensor to the required length. and optional fittings. Model 120 is designed to be used with a range of fitting options. All can be installed in a matter of minutes.

Thermocouples

1XXY – Base Metal Bare Element

This base metal bare element thermocouple has a bare strip termination. Twisted and welded junction as standard, with butt welded optional. Available in types K, N, J and 8, 14, 20 gauge as standard. Other types and gauges available upon request.

25X-Bare Wire Noble Metal Element

A high temperature Noble metal thermocouple, elements are provided to match the ITS 1990 curve. 24 gauge (0.020″) wire is standard with other gauges available. Spools of bare platinum wire are also available.

26X-Insulated Noble Metal Element

A high temperature Noble metal thermocouples, elements are provided to match the ITS 1990 curve. 24 gauge (0.020″) wire is standard with other gauges available. Insulators are made of alumina, mullite, or hafnia ceramics. Termination can be bare strip, color coded sleeves, fishspine insulators or copper sleeves.

27X-Insulated Noble Metal Element w-Collar

A high temperature Noble metal thermocouple, elements are provided to match the ITS 1990 curve. 24 gauge (0.020″) wire is standard with other gauges available. Insulators are made of alumina, mullite, or hafnia ceramics. Termination can be bare strip, color coded sleeves, fishspine insulators or copper sleeves. Porcelain collar installed for vertical applications.

2XXY – Base Metal Insulated Element
